Honolulu Marathon

A world-class annual event hosts thousands of participants from all over the world.

At 5 a.m. on the second Sunday in December, Honolulu plays host to the fourth largest marathon in the United States (after New York, Chicago and Boston).

Whether you’re running or just cheering from the sidelines, it’s a spectacle not to be missed as more than 20,000 people take to the streets, many in costume.

Participants hail from all over the globe, with nearly as many entrants from Japan as Hawaii.

After their early morning start, the elite runners in the field arrive at the finish line near Diamond Head a little after 7 a.m. You can watch the final sprint and still make it to brunch on time.
