Apple Bananas

Mildly sweet and slightly tangy

Apple bananas, about half-the size of typical bananas, are most commonly found at farmers markets.

They do not taste like apples but are named for two types of closely related bananas: Apple Tall, and Dwarf Brazilian.

Taste: Mildly sweet and slightly tangy.

How to eat: Apple bananas are compact and make excellent light snacks for day-long excursions. Just peel and eat.

Selecting: Quality is determined by firmness, size (length and thickness), evenness of ripening (all yellow), and lack of bruises.

Storing: Keep at room temperature and eat ripe bananas within a few days.

Season: Available year-round.
