  • What are the benefits for an upgrade from Economy Class to First/Business Class?

    Will I earn HawaiianMiles for Bid Up?

    No, there will be no additional travel mileage earned on Bid Up upgrades. Upgrade guests are eligible to earn HawaiianMiles at the rate of their originally purchased coach cabin tickets. 


    Who is eligible for the Hawaiian Airlines Bid Up service?

    You must be flying on at least one (1) Hawaiian Airlines operated flight between Hawaii and North America, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, American Samoa, or Tahiti, holding a confirmed ticket.


    Who will receive a Hawaiian Airlines Bid Up email notification?

    Only the first listed passenger on the Hawaiian Airlines reservation with the qualifying attributes above will receive an email invitation to participate in Bid Up.

    I know someone else who is flying on the same flight I'm taking, and he/she received an invitation, but I did not. Why not?

    There can be several reasons for this. Please verify that you provided a valid email address when completing your flight booking. Pass traveling guests will not receive an email.


    Can I check my eligibility anyway, even if I did not receive an email notification?

    Yes. Go to HawaiianAirlines.com/BidUp and enter your Hawaiian Airlines 6-letter confirmation code and Last Name and it will verify if Bid Up is available for your flight(s). If it is available, you will be directed to the offer page where you can submit your offer in USD only.  To place a bid in AUD or NZD, please wait to receive your pre-travel email 10 days prior to the departure of your first Bid Up eligible flight segment.

    If you still haven't received an email and are at least 3 days prior to departure, please contact our Web Support Center to assist with receiving another pre-travel email.


    Are there only certain destinations that the upgrade is applicable for?

    Upgrades are available only to and from our North America, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, American Samoa, and Tahiti flights only.

    When one flight of my trip is upgraded, what is the additional baggage allowance for my whole trip?

    • Additional baggage allowance applies only on the segment that has been upgraded.
    • For example, a confirmed ticket from Honolulu to Seattle roundtrip has the first segment (Honolulu-Seattle) upgraded. Additional baggage allowance applies only on the upgraded segment (Honolulu-Seattle). For the return segment (Seattle - Honolulu), your baggage allowance will depend on the cabin booked.
    • For International (business class) travel, 2 free checked bags are included with the purchase of your original economy class ticket.  A successful upgrade will not add any additional bags to this allowance. Read here for information on Baggage Fees & Policies.

    I also used my Hawaiian Airlines WorldElite Mastercard as my form of payment when I submitted my offer.  If my offer is selected and I am upgraded do I get an additional free checked bag?

    Only two (2) free checked bags per passenger will be accepted even with a successful offer. The two (2) free checked bags per guest are associated to the benefit of the First Class upgrade or the purchase of an economy class ticket on an international route and cannot be combined with the complimentary first checked bag benefit associated with the Hawaiian Airlines World Elite MasterCard. However, if your offer is not successful, your complimentary first checked bag benefit can be utilized.

    Hawaiian Airlines Pualani Elite or Premier Club members who are also the primary cardholder of a Hawaiian Airlines WorldElite MasterCard, will receive one (1) complimentary checked bag in addition to their membership baggage allowance if the ticket with flight(s) that have a successful Bid Up first class upgrade were purchased directly from Hawaiian Airlines using their Hawaiian Airlines WorldElite MasterCard.

    Any additional checked bags above your total allowance will be charged at the next sequential bag fee. For example, a Pualani Platinum member who is also the primary cardholder that has a successful Bid Up upgrade on a ticket purchased with their Hawaiian Airlines WorldElite Mastercard will get three (3) bags for their membership + one (1) complimentary bag for using their credit card.     Can I use the Hawaiian Airlines First Class Auction Upgrade on Hawaiian Airlines flights which are operated by its partner airlines
    ?

    Bid Up is not available for flights operated by our partner airlines. Please refer to the Terms and Conditions for these flights on our partner airlines.

    As a Pualani Platinum member, will I still be able to utilize my complimentary first/business class upgrade benefit?

    Yes! Upgrades through Bid Up are awarded to guests with successful bids within 48 hours prior to departure, subject to availability at the time of upgrade. The Pualani Platinum complimentary first class upgrade benefit entitles member to a one-way upgrade on North America or International flights operated by Hawaiian Airlines within 72 hours (3 days) prior to departure, also subject to availability.   • When I enter my confirmation code and Last Name an error message appears. What should I do in this case?

    Please check your Hawaiian Airlines 6-letter confirmation code and Last Name and try again. If the error persists, please contact our Web Support Center.

    Am I only able to place a bid in USD?

    No.  Bids will be also be accepted in the currency that your original fare was purchased in when placing your bid through the Pre-Travel or Chaser Emails. For example, if you purchased your ticket from Auckland to Hawaii roundtrip in NZD, your Bid Up will also be accepted only in NZD. All bids placed via HawaiianAirlines.com/BidUp will be in USD only.


    Can I choose any amount I want for my upgrade offer?

    The system has a default minimum and maximum bid amount set. Move the slider left or right to adjust your offer, the slider will adjust your offer strength. It will not accept any offer lower than the minimum amount or higher than the maximum amount.


    What does the strength indicator mean on the offer page?

    The strength indicator is a guide that shows the strength of your bid, but does not guarantee its success.
    • Red bar – poor offer: very unlikely to be upgraded
    • Yellow bar – offer below past successful offers; unlikely to be upgraded
    • Green bar – offer is in the range of past successful offers; moderate chances!
    • Dark green bar – good offer; high chance to be upgraded, no guarantee.


    How can I increase my chances of being upgraded?

    There are many factors that determine whether or not an offer for an upgrade is accepted. Besides availability, the main factors are the number of other passengers making upgrade offers for the same flight and the amount they are willing to pay for an upgrade.


    Can I offer different amounts for the upgrade for each segment of my journey?

    Yes, you can offer different amounts for each eligible segment. Auctions are conducted by segment, not as a roundtrip. Please pay attention to the segment of your itinerary for which you are currently making an offer and set the slider accordingly.

    Can I submit an offer for an upgrade on only one flight segment?

    Yes. You can choose whether to submit an upgrade offer for departure, return, or round trip. Bids are submitted by flight segment.


    I have booked 5 guests under the same itinerary. Is it possible to upgrade two guests only?

    No, upgrade bids are made for all passengers on the itinerary. 

    Can I change my offer to a higher or lower amount? If so, how do I do that?

    Yes, you can change the amount up to 48 hours prior to the flight's departure. All you need to do to change your offer is to use the ‘modify/cancel’ link from the email confirmation that your initial offer was received or visit HawaiianAirlines.com/BidUp and enter your 6-letter confirmation code and last name.


    What happens to my offer if I change the travel date on the flight I bid on?

    Any changes to your itinerary will void your offer on that flight. However, you are free to cancel the original bid and place a new bid if you would like by using the ‘modify/cancel’ link from the email confirmation that your initial offer was received or visit HawaiianAirlines.com/BidUp and enter your 6-letter confirmation code and last name.


    What should I do if I need to cancel my offer?

    You can cancel your offer by clicking on the 'cancel' link in the e-mail you have received confirming your offer. Alternatively, you can also access the offer page again through the eligibility widget on HawaiianAirlines.com/BidUp.


    I cancelled my original offer, but now I would like to make a new offer.  How can I do this?

    After cancelling your initial offer, you can make a new offer up to 48 hours prior to flight departure using the links in the original upgrade offer email that was sent or access the offer page through the eligibility widget on http://www.hawaiianairlines.com/bidup.


    What do I do if I don't receive an e-mail after submitting my offer?

    Please allow up to four (4) hours as it may take time for the e-mail to be generated. Please also check the spam folder in your e-mail account. You can check the status of your offer at any time by visiting HawaiianAirlines.com/BidUp and enter your 6-letter confirmation code and last name to access your offer information. If you would like to request to receive an email with your offer information, please contact our Web Support Center.


    How will I know that my offer was accepted and that the upgrade was approved?

    You will receive an email within 48 hours prior to departure confirming whether your upgrade offer was accepted. If you submitted offers for multiple flights, you will receive separate notifications for each flight.


    My offer has been successful and I have been informed via email. How do I verify that I’ve been upgraded?

    If If you would like to check that the upgrade is reflected in your reservation prior to check-in, please visit MyTrips and enter your 6-letter confirmation code and last name to view your itinerary.


    Can I transfer the upgrade to another flight if my offer is successful?

    Successful upgrades are non-transferable, non-refundable, and are valid only on the flight and date of travel on the ticket that an offer was accepted for upgrade.


    What will happen if I have made an offer and it has not been successful?

    You will receive an email 26 hours prior to departure informing you that your offer has been unsuccessful. Another offer cannot be made for that flight. No amount will be deducted from your credit card and you can travel with your existing ticket. During check-in you may still be able to purchase a Day of Departure First Class upgrade, subject to availability. Click here for more information.


    Will I have the option to choose my seat(s) at the time of upgrade?

    Unfortunately, you will be unable to choose your seats when the upgrade is awarded as seats are assigned based on availability. Seat changes can be made at the time of check-in, 24 hours prior to departure, by visiting MyTrips. Enter your confirmation code and last name to view your itinerary and check-in.


    If I am too late to make an offer, what are my chances of securing an upgrade at check-in?

    Your chance of securing a First or Business Class seat depends on its availability. At check-in, 24 hours prior to departure, upgrades are available for purchase through the web or kiosk at the airport. For more information, visit First Class Upgrade.

  • Do I have to pay for submitting an offer for an upgrade?

    No, there is no charge for submitting an upgrade offer. If you are awarded the upgrade, the cost of your upgrade offer will be debited from the form of payment you provided.


    Are there any taxes to be paid when using Bid Up?

    Taxes due are included in the total price agreed to at the time of submitting your offer. No additional taxes will be collected.


    What fare rules apply for my upgraded ticket?

    The same rules apply as the original fare purchased, including change fees and cancellation penalties.


    Will there be an authorization hold on my credit card?

    An authorization is used to verify that the form of payment is active. A $0 authorization will be used on Visa,  MasterCard and Discover credit and debit cards. A $1 authorization will be used on American Express cards.


    When will my credit card be charged for the upgrade?

    You must enter your credit card details when submitting an offer, so that the card can be verified with the credit card company. The amount you offered will be charged when you are awarded the upgrade. If you are not awarded the upgrade your card will not be charged.


    If I have an existing offer and wish to use a different credit card, how can I change my credit card information?

    You may change your credit card information for payment by first canceling your current offer within the offer submission window, up to 48 hours prior to departure. Only after cancellation will you be able to submit a new offer using your preferred credit card.

    I received an email that notified me that my credit card was unable to be processed.  What do I need to do?

    Please refer back to the email and review the options available to you. You will have the option to enter a new form of payment if you wish. If you would like to update your form of payment on all remaining segments that you have pending offer on, please check the box above the 'Payment Information' section. Please note that an upgrade will only be awarded if there is space available and a valid form of payment is received 28 hours prior to flight departure.

    Will the amount I offered be refunded if the flight I have been upgraded on has been cancelled?

    In the event of a flight cancellation from Hawaiian Airlines, we will try to accommodate you in another First or BusinessClass seat on the flight that you are re-accommodated on. Otherwise, we will refund the full upgrade amount within 7-10 business days to the original form of payment used for purchase.


    My offer for the upgrade has been successful. However, I would like to cancel my ticket for that segment of journey. Will the amount I offered for the upgrade be refunded?

    If you are canceling/changing your ticket, then no refund will be offered for the upgrade. The same rule applies if you are canceling/changing your entire trip and one segment of your journey has been upgraded.


    My offer for upgrade has been successful. However, I would like to change another flight segment on the same ticket. Will there be additional fees?

    The you are canceling/changing your ticket, then no refund will be offered for the upgrade. The same rule applies if you are canceling/changing your entire trip and one segment of your journey has been upgraded.


    My offer for upgrade has been successful. What do I do if I have changed my mind and don’t want the upgrade anymore?

    A first or business class upgrade awarded using Bid Up by Hawaiian Airlines is non-refundable.


    I have already purchased an Extra Comfort seat on my existing booking. What will happen if I get upgraded with Bid Up?

    The amount paid for an Extra Comfort seat is non-refundable and non-transferable to your First Class upgrade.

  • What do I do now I’m upgraded?

    There’s nothing more you need to do. Proceed to check in for your flight 24 hours prior to departure and enjoy the First Class Amenities. Remember that the upgrade only applies to the flight segment in which an offer was accepted.


    What documents do I need to present at the airport?

    If you plan to check-in at the airport, please have your confirmation code and a valid government issued ID and/or passport with you. If you are already checked-in when you arrive at the airport, please have your valid boarding pass and a valid government issued ID and/or passport. A copy of your upgrade confirmation email is optional. Please refer to our Travel Documents and ID Requirements page for more information.


    What happens to my upgrade if I miss my flight?

    If you miss a flight through your own fault, your upgrade will be forfeited. The upgrade amount is non-refundable. However, in the event of a flight cancellation from Hawaiian Airlines, we will try to accommodate you in another First or Business Class seat on the flight that you are re-accommodated on. Otherwise, we will refund the full upgrade amount within 7-10 business days to the credit card used for purchase.
