Wine connoisseurs won’t want to miss the “Napa Valley of Hawaii,” 2,000 feet up the slopes of Haleakala volcano.
MauiWine’s production facility and Tasting Room sit on what was the front yard of Rose Ranch, one of King Kalakaua’s favorite retreats.
The Tasting Room was originally the cottage where the king stayed when he visited the ranch.
Its centerpiece, an 18-foot bar, was crafted from the trunk of a single mango tree. A tour sheds light on the winery’s history and wine-making process and ends with samples of wines, including three made from the juice of sweet Maui Gold pineapples.
